Dominique Reynié, political expert says in an interview for Le Monde that Europe is taking root to the right because the financial crisis made European owners fearful and wanting to protect their interests which the right is more likely to do. Moreover he argues that the ageing of European population is a cause of tensions and worries about the pension systems and introduces security and identity as main issues in the political agenda as there will be a growing need to resort to immigration to keep up with a fair amount of young working population. Ageing thus creates a structurally unfavourable situation for the left and the idea of social-democracy facing a pragmatico-liberal right able to produce social effects without dogmatism when necessary. The right will be supporting Europeanization while delivering ostentatious nation-centrered messages towards parts of its popular electorate.
