Egemen Bagis: ‘Turkey will be fully in the EU or not at all’

In Le Monde, the Turkish young state minister and chief negotiator with the EU comments the election results in term of what they could mean for Turkey’s accession to the EU and then explains that some of the European political leaders who argue about Turkey’s accession to the EU at electoral times should focus on the ways to solve common issues instead of using unnecessary arguments.

Europe will face challenges which require collaboration between the member states in energy security, defence, human traffic, inclusion of migrants, economic crisis, terrorism and islamophobia. Turkey’s accession to the EU will help in facing those challenges. Europe needs Turkey as much as Turkey needs the EU.

Turkish political opposition delays Turkey’s progress and European political leaders who discourage public opinion are not helpful either.
