Natural Monuments in Cluj County
Cluj County’s territory is characterized by a great variety of landscapes and landforms. The numerous natural monuments increase its touring importance. The most impressive recreational resources are: Gilau, Vladeasa and Trascau Mountains, Turda Canyon and Tureni Canyon. Known since Roman times, Turda Canyon is remarkable for the greatness and complexity of the landscape and wildlife. The relief is characterized by vertical walls, disarrayed cliffs and numerous caves. Since 1938, Turda Canyon is a Nature Reserve due to its characteristic flora and fauna. A memorable reserve, placed in the heart of Cluj – Napoca is the Botanic Garden. It is one of the most beautiful and complex botanical gardens in South East Europe. It was founded in 1920 by the university professor Alexandru Borza, and it extends on an area of 14 hectares. Within this museum of nature, trees and plants specific to all continents enjoy optimum conditions for growing. Gypsy’s River divides the garden into two equal parts and with the interweaving of three of its tributaries adds a final note and picturesque charm. Other natural resources like millennial spas (Baita Baths, Cojocnam Baths, Turda Salt Baths  ...etc), limestone mountains (Trascau Mountains), and volcanic plateaus (Vladeasa Mountains) give the county the rich recreational character and bring annually a large number of tourists.
