Salon Europa – Dialogues on Transnationalism

Transnational Journalism

Thursday 14 January 2010, h. 18:00

Libreria Feltrinelli, piazza Ravegnana, 1 – Bologna

European Alternatives inaugurates 2010 with a new meeting as part of the Salon Europa series of events, which this time will be focused on transnational journalism.

Which is the role of journalism in helping to comprehend and cope with the challanges advanced by globalization?

In the new global context, how can – and must – the work of journalist be reconfigured?

Is it possible to overcome the traditional division between “national” and “foreign” news in order to consider the whole spectrum of information with a glimpse that goes beyond national borders?

Through journalist practice, is it possible to create a transnational public sphere?,

We will discuss this key questions with Eric Jozsef (Italian correspondent of Libération), Giuliano Battiston (cultural journalist, Scuola di Giornalismo della Fondazione Lelio Basso), Federico Montanari (Università di Bologna, Dipartimento di Comunicazione).

The meeting will also be the occasion to present a new competition for young journalist, the Transuropa Award from A to B, promoted by European Alternatives together with Youth Press Italia and Youthmedia.
