About the Network

THE BASICS

  • Transeuropa Network (TN) is a network of activists from throughout Europe working together for the emergence of a new and genuinely transnational European politics, culture and society
  • TN is an innovative experiment in transnational, bottom-up democracy and participation.
  • TN brings together all activist members of European Alternatives to collectively shape the organisation and its political and cultural positions.

THE STRUCTURES / HOW IT WORKS

  • TN is a horizontal network with individual activists able to vote on or propose thematic priorities for the organisation, participating in running campaigns and activities, and directly electing their representatives in the Transnational Board, the principal decision-making body of European Alternatives
  • If they so wish, activists can organise themselves in local groups. Local groups serve to conduct activities and campaigns in a specific city, organise a local edition of Transeuropa Festival, and generally offer a great opportunity to discuss interesting topics with likeminded new friends!
  • Local groups are grouped together in the Transeuropa Cooperative, coordinated by two elected co-chairs. The Cooperative serves to guarantee that local groups don't just work in isolation at a local level, but join forces to carry out truly transnational projects and activities.
  • Transnational meetings take place on a regular, usually monthly basis in different cities/countries. The Cooperative is responsible for the organisation of such meetings and for organising attendance in collaboration with local groups. Reimbursement of travel expenses will often be available to participants involved in specific workgroups or activities.

THE IDEAS

  • European Alternatives is a transnational membership organisation promoting democracy, equality and culture beyond the nation state. It is not only an NGO, nor a political party, nor a group of volunteers, but an innovative organisation between all of these which promotes transnational action to bring about political, social and cultural change.
  • In contemporary Europe, as in the wider world, political, social and cultural change will not come about by individuals or organisations working exclusively within their sectors of concern or localities, but by cooperation and coordination across sectors and types of organisation. European Alternatives aims to be a motor and facilitator for this synthesis and common action. It does not confine its action to any one theme, topic or geographical area, but endeavours to be generalist and transnational.
