Amidst growing controversy at a new, draconian media law in Hungary, constant worry at the independence of Italian media under the permiership of Silvio Berlusconi, Murdoch's attempt to take over BskyB in the UK, and increasing worry at the state of the media in numerous other European countries, this conference brings together a significant representation of European civil society organisations with an interest in media freedom and pluralism from over 10 EU member states, to start constructing a common trans-European action and advocacy platform in support of media pluralism.
